The mind is fire to be kindled.
Here is one quote, one question and one idea to contemplate.
“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled."
- Plutarch
What might happen if we approached each interaction as a learning adventure?
Picture this: you’ve just finished a conversation with a colleague and as you are walking back to your office you can’t help but feel you missed an opportunity. Like there was something more to uncover and understand. At work, we often rush through interactions, our minds already on the next task or meeting. But what if we looked at it differently? What if we considered each interaction as a chance to learn?
The Power of Learning Mode
When we approach interactions as chances to learn, we become more attentive to details we might have missed before. It's like activating a superpower that helps us read between the lines, create space for new ideas and, uncover valuable information.
This approach isn't about agreeing with everything the other person says; it's about showing genuine interest in others' knowledge and perspectives. By doing so, we create an environment where our colleagues feel understood, leading to a more engaged team.
So, here's a couple of small actions you can take today. In your next interaction, switch on your learning mode and:
Pause: Take a moment after your colleague speaks to absorb their words. Every good fire needs oxygen. This "oxygen" allows the conversation to breathe and develop.
Ask questions: Use questions as kindling. Inquire about their:
Observations and learnings
Thoughts and expectations
Experiences
The Benefits of Learning Mode
When we engage in learning mode our brains become more active, we connect previously unseen dots, we discover fresh approaches to old problems and, we build stronger connections with others.
Every interaction has the potential to be a turning point—a chance to grow, understand, and help others feel understood. Your next learning opportunity is just one conversation away. Are you ready to ignite that spark?
Until next time,
Maria
